Google Adwords Keyword Tool

Adwords Free Keyword Tool

Sometimes, some of the best things in life really are free. The Google Adwords Keyword Tool is one of those examples that free is not always a bad thing. The Google Adwords keyword tools are the very best source of keyword information you will find anywhere on the internet. Usually I start all of my initial keyword research using this tool because the information is the most accurate and up todate available. Google’s keyword tool is great for finding a list of niche keywords, and a related keywords list.

One of the best things about the Google Keyword Tool is that it gives a whole list of keywords based on a single search term entered.  The list of keywords that the tool pulls up is a list of all the kewyords that I can use in the  text on my pages to help add to the keyword content of the page.

Adwords is great for finding out approximate search counts, and huge related keyword lists, but the one main drawback is that it is aimed toward Adwords PPC campaigns. That is great if you are only doing research on pay per click markets, but not so good if you want information for optimizing your website and seo efforts. For instance, the competition bar in the results panel returns competition levels in paid advertising, it does not represent seo competition. This is good to find out if it’s a good market because if there is a lot of   competition, there’s a good chance it is a profitable one also. So, just because the Google Adwords Keyword Tool says there’s high competition, it doesn’t mean you can’t rank easily in for an seo strategy.

Using The Google Adwords Keyword Tool

Using the Google Keyword Tool is fairly straight forward and simple. There are a few things to keep in mind, and some particular settings you should use for almost every keyword search you perform.

The first thing to keep in mind is that all of the search results are approximate, and the results of keyword search counts will vary greatly sometimes. The number is just an indication of how popular a search term is, and indicate the average search volume for one month.

The second thing to do each time when performing keyword research is to look at the left side column of the keyword tool and go down to where there are three check boxes that say: Broad Match, Phrase Match, and Exact Match. Uncheck the broad match check box and check the phrase match and exact match boxes. This will give much more accurate results on the actual keyword phrase you are researching. Using a broad match will return all data from every word in the phrase.

For example using a search term such as: Dog training will give all results for “Dog”, “Training” and “Dog Training”. So you can see how the results can be much higher and much less targeted than when using a phrase match, or exact count.

If you don’t have Google Adwords account, you will not get all of the results that are produced. You are limited to a certain number of results. I suggest signing up for an Adwords account so you can get all possible keyword combinations and related keywords possible. It will give you much more results, and will be a lot better to do your  keyword research when using the Google Keyword Tool.
